John Deere Section Control turns machine or implement sections on and off automatically to reduce overlap and improve input management. Section Control requires the following components:
Display with a Section Control activation or license
Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS) receiver (minimum of SF2 signal accuracy is recommended if using a StarFire Receiver)
Machine or implement with a Section Control-compatible control unit (compatibility can be confirmed with the control unit manufacturer)
Advanced Settings - Access Information and Settings for further adjustments and less common settings. |
|
Select Master Switch to turn on Section Control. Switch can also be placed in shortcut bar using Layout Manager. |

Select Headland Control Switch to use headlands while using Section Control. |
Headland Control Switch |
Select Offset to change the headland dimension. Changes to the headland offset are saved to the current field. |
NOTE: Headland Control requires that one or both boundaries be checked. If both Exterior and Interior are deselected, Headland Control automatically turns off.
NOTE: If one boundary type is deselected, Headland Control ignores any headlands associated with that boundary.
Exterior - Select the Exterior checkbox to use exterior boundaries. Section Control will command off sections that are outside of the exterior boundary. |
|
Interior - Select the Interior checkbox to use interior boundaries. Section Control will command off sections that are inside of an interior boundary. |
|
Manual Section Control allows the operator to manually group sections and turn them on and off independently of the coverage map. |
|
The Operation section allows the operator to enable or disable operations, view operation state, and adjust settings. When using multiple operations, each operation displays separately. Use Work Setup to set up operations.
Select Performance Tuning to calibrate Section Control. Complete performance tuning before modifying overlap settings. |
|
Select Overlap Setting to achieve preferred seed or product location. Do not use to compensate for Section Control performance. |

To view Diagnostics, select operation area.

Section Control on the display is compatible with:
John Deere planters: SeedStar 2, SeedStar XP, SeedStar 3 HP, and SeedStar 4
John Deere air seeding: 1910 and 1990 (S.N. 730101—)
NOTE: See display software release notes for a full list of compatible air seeding equipment.
Implements: AEF (Agricultural Industry Electronics Foundation)-certified ISO implements with TC-SC (task controller and section control) and John Deere pull-type sprayers
GreenStar Rate Controller: liquid fertilizer and anhydrous ammonia applicators, pull-type spreaders, and pull-type sprayers
John Deere Rate Controller 2000: liquid fertilizer and anhydrous ammonia applicators, pull-type spreaders, and pull-type sprayers
Section Control is capable of controlling up to 16 sections on most equipment. Section Control on AEF-certified ISO implements with TC-SC is capable of controlling up to 255 sections.
Section Control requires task controller communication with the control unit, and the task controller cannot run on two connected displays. Status of task controller can be viewed in multiple display settings.
Precision ag applications must be enabled and the implement must be detected on the same display.
A section status run page module and a shortcut key can be added to a run page using Layout Manager.
Run page module displays status of each section. |
