Mechanical Delay

Mechanical Delay allows you to adjust when the seed meters turn ON and OFF in response to Section Control.

Items Accessible on Mechanical Delay Page:

Mechanical Delay— is the travel time of the seed from the point of seed release (from the row unit) to the soil. This delay is used to calculate the response of Section Control.

Mechanical Delay On— is the travel time of the initial seed released after the seed meter is commanded ON.

On Delay

Mechanical Delay Off— is the travel time of the final seed released after the seed meter is commanded OFF.

Minimum Delays: 0.10 seconds

Defaults: vary per implement and seed meter configuration

Maximum Delays: 15 seconds

OFF Delay

Performance Tuning— select the icon to open the Section Control application. Performance tuning is used to correct skips and overlaps in product applied on the ground. It uses distance and speed to adjust mechanical delay settings.

Procedure to Modify:

IMPORTANT: The delay times are factory set. The accuracy of the times entered directly affect Section Control accuracy.

  1. Raise the implement while unfolded and in the planting orientation.

  2. Stand near a row unit so that you can observe where the seed exits.

  3. Prepare to start your stopwatch when you engage the meter and stop the timing when the seed exits the row unit.

  4. Perform a Row Runoff procedure from the Diagnostics and Calibrations page and start your stopwatch at the moment you start the runoff. Stop your stopwatch at the moment the first seed appears.

  1. Select the Mechanical Delay On input box and enter the time recorded using the number pad.

On Delay

  1. Reset your stopwatch.

  2. Start your stopwatch at the moment that you stop the runoff. Stop your stopwatch at the moment the last seed exits the row unit.

  1. Select the Mechanical Delay Off input box and enter the time recorded using the number pad.

Off Delay

  1. Select OK to save the change or Cancel to disregard the change.
