The modular telematics gateway (MTG) is one of the main components that enable John Deere telematics solutions, such as JDLink, Service ADVISOR Remote, and John Deere Remote Display Access (RDA).
The MTG contains firmware, a cellular modem, and SIM device. It sends and receives data and messages over cellular networks.
RDA requires an uninterrupted cellular connection to function. JDLink does not require an uninterrupted cellular connection because the MTG can store up to 1000 hours of data.
The following information is provided by the MTG:
MTG Serial Number - MTG serial number.
MTG Firmware Version - MTG firmware version number.
Display Serial Number - Display serial number.
Display Firmware Version - Display firmware version number.
Ethernet - Indicates whether the Ethernet connection between the display and MTG is active or inactive.
WDT Status - Indicates whether the MTG is capable of Wireless Data Transfer (WDT).
Operations Center—MTG - Indicates whether the connection between the MTG and John Deere Operations Center is active or inactive.
Operations Center—Display - Indicates whether the connection between the display and John Deere Operations Center is active or inactive.
Antenna Status - Indicates whether the cellular antenna is connected or if an error is present.
GPS Antenna Status - Indicates whether the GPS antenna is connected or if an error is present.
Wi-Fi Antenna Status - Indicates whether the wireless antenna is connected or if an error is present.
Satellite Antenna Status - Indicates whether the satellite antenna is connected or if an error is present.
Active MTG DTC - "Yes" indicates that the MTG has an active diagnostic trouble code (DTC).
MTG CAN 1, 2, 3, and 4 - Indicates whether this MTG CAN connection is active. Statuses are:
No activity
250 kbps (connected to a 250 000 baud rate CAN)
500 kbps (connected to a 500 000 baud rate CAN)
Network is the mechanism that the display uses to connect to the internet. The network diagnostics page displays any issues with network connectivity, as well as whether the connection is established with an MTG or another wireless internet connection.
Network ID - Displays either the GSM carrier ID, the wireless network name, or STARLINK.
Org ID - Organization number of the connected John Deere Operations Center organization.
Org Name - Organization name of the connected John Deere Operations Center organization.
MTG Authentication - Indicates whether the Amazon Web Services certificate is available, parsed, and valid through the MTG connection (Active or Inactive).
Display Authentication - Indicates whether the Amazon Web Services certificate is available, parsed, and valid through the display connection (Active or Inactive).
Connection Type - Displays the connection type: 2G, 3G, or 4G if on a cellular network; wireless if on a Wi-Fi connection; or STARLINK if on a satellite connection.
Signal Strength - Strength of the connection.
Internet Status - Indicates whether an internet connection is available.
Network Speed—Live Tx Rate - The speed that data can be sent over the internet or satellite connection.
Network Speed—Live Rx Rate - The speed that data can be received over the internet or satellite connection.
RDA State - Status of the RDA connection (Not Started, Initiating, Connected, or Finished).
Last Connection - Displays the time and date of the most recent RDA connection.
Registration Status - Displays the customer-owned SIM card setup status.
Error - Provides an error string if the setup is unable to complete successfully.
APN - Shows the access point name (APN) through which the connection is established.
Allow Optional Data - Shows the status of the setting that allows an operator to determine if they want to allow John Deere to perform actions that would cause additional data usage, such as updating firmware.
Configuration File - Displays whether the MTG is using a defined configuration file.
